What actually makes users in India pay for a money app?

I’m working on an app in India for people who want to be a bit more intentional about how they manage their money, beyond just tracking expenses.

I’m trying to decide between freemium vs free trial, and would love real experiences.

For those who’ve actually gotten Indian users to subscribe:

  • What pushed them to pay: price, a specific feature, or trust built over time?
  • Did freemium users convert meaningfully, or did most paid users come from trials?
  • Do users here need weeks/months before paying, or can a short trial work?

Everyone says Indian users are price-sensitive, but I’m not fully convinced, especially for people who genuinely care about their finances.

Would love to hear what worked (and what didn’t) from folks who’ve been through this.
