Why does every tool cost $20 to $25 a month. Supabase, Resend, bunny.net etc. If you want to build a saas you have to cover all these costs first. But if you dig a little deeper you can find a way to cut these costs. Ive stopped using Supabase and purchased a VPS for $12 a month to host 4 of my freelancing projects. I built my own Supabase style app that I host on my VPS to see my db and deply edge functions. Yes I know you can self host Supabase and appwrite etc. But this really upskilled me. In doing this project I was even able to sell this solution to a couple of my developer friends and even my dev manager. Which I think is pretty cool. So what my conclusion is. Build cool software! Even in this current time where there are hundreds of providers. You can still find small gaps. Explore the self hosting rabbit hole!
