Looking for advice on selling small software tools

Hi everyone,

I'm a software engineering student, and I want to start a small software business.

My idea is to build small, useful tools or scripts that solve real problems and sell them as one-time purchases (not a subscription). I'm not sure if this business model is common or if it already has a specific name.

I'm looking for advice on:

  • Is this a viable business model?
  • Where can I find real problems worth solving?
  • Should I learn SaaS first, or is there another path that's better for one-time software products?
  • Are there any courses, books, or communities you'd recommend for someone getting started?

I'd really appreciate any advice or resources from people who have experience building and selling software.

Thank you!
