I've been thinking about where software development and SaaS might be heading over the next 5 years.
I'm building software in Chile, and one thing I've noticed is that creating the product and finding people willing to pay for it are two completely different challenges.
With AI making development faster and more accessible, I wonder what happens when almost anyone can build a decent product.
Will customers start expecting much more for less money? Will small SaaS companies struggle to compete, or will this actually create more opportunities for independent developers?
And economically, what becomes more valuable when the code itself gets cheaper? Distribution, trust, understanding a specific industry, or something else entirely?
I'm curious how other developers, founders, and even software customers see this playing out.
Personally, I think building software will become less of a competitive advantage on its own. But I'm not sure what replaces it.
What do you think the software business will actually look like in 2030?
