they launched three months ago. same features, same interface, same positioning. only difference is they're $29/month and we're $59/month.
we're losing deals to them. prospects tell us they like our product better but can't justify paying double.
my first reaction was to lower prices to compete. talked to some other founders who said that's exactly the wrong move. if we compete on price we'll just race to the bottom.
instead we're focusing on the things they can't copy. our support is way better. our documentation is more thorough. we have relationships with customers. we're building features for specific use cases instead of trying to be everything.
some customers will always pick cheaper. that's fine. the ones who stay with us value the things that aren't easy to copy.
still stings watching them take customers but trying to remember we're playing a longer game than just matching price.
