Anyone else feel like SaaS growth advice online is completely disconnected from reality?

Lately I’ve been going down the usual rabbit hole of SaaS content. Blogs, LinkedIn posts, YouTube, the whole thing.

And honestly… a lot of it feels like it’s coming from a completely different universe.

You see posts like:
“Just build in public.”
“Just do cold outreach.”
“Just ship faster.”
“Just post content.”

But when you're actually building something, it’s rarely that simple.

You ship something you think people want… nobody signs up.
You get signups… nobody activates.
You get activation… nobody sticks around.

And suddenly the “simple playbooks” start looking a lot messier.

What’s funny is that when founders share real numbers or struggles, the conversation becomes way more interesting. Things like:

  • “We had 2,000 signups and only 60 people actually used the product.”
  • “Our onboarding flow is killing our retention.”
  • “We thought our ICP was X but it turns out it’s Y.”

Those posts always have the best discussions.

Curious if others feel the same.

Does most SaaS growth advice online actually help you… or does it mostly feel like hindsight storytelling?
